It started in 2019 in a Github Issues thread for Lighthouse. Lighthouse, for those that don’t know, is the auditing software that runs/calculates the scores for Pagespeed Insights. It was a post by a Github user named fchristant who was voicing frustration to the lighthouse team on Lighthouse, and by extension, Pagespeed Insights and their very real credibility issue.
fchristant’s post lit a fire in me that has spawned various discussions I have had in the web development community regarding Google’s Pagespeed Insights, how to handle aggressively low pagespeed scores, and ultimately how to handle managers and stakeholders that come to me with complaints of pagespeed. I meant to build this site in 2020, but life happened.
Now, as 2023 has been rounding the corner, I find myself with just enough time to create this simple website, to help developers that are fighting this battle for the :nth(infinite) time; to answer the questions stakeholders might have about why they have a low score. Basically, this site is to answer questions about Pagespeed Insights.
